2024 Adaptive Golf Season: Outing at First Tee in Downtown Richmond – 04/17

May 2, 2024

On Wednesday April 17th, 2024 The Mission Gait Foundation held its first Adaptive Golf Group event of the season at the First Tee in Downtown Richmond, Va. In attendance were Gene Day (left leg below knee amputee), Mike East (left leg below knee amputee), and Jack Coats (right leg below knee amputee).

The afternoon began with a warm up on the range, where pro, Maggie Will, coached form and provided tips and tricks on bettering their golf swings and game.

Following warm up the entire crew, including David Lawrence (Founder and CEO of The Mission Gait Foundation), made their way to the 6 hole, Par 3 course, located on the back side of the clubhouse.

They participated in traditional stroke play, and Maggie followed along to help provide practical guidance in game-time situations.

The par 3 course is made up of 6 holes with tee distances ranging from as close as 45 yards to as far as 180 yards.

Highlights of the day include:

  • Gene Day’s tee off on the 6th hole landed 2 feet from the pin, allowing for an easy tap-in birdie.
  • Mike East played a second round of 6, where he hit 5 pars and one bogie, completing the loop with an impressive 1 over par.
  • Jack Coats had a phenomenal bunker shot on the second hole of the second round, where he chipped the ball from the middle of the bunker and landed 10 feet from the pin on the green.

This day marks the beginning of our golf season and the start to many more successful events to come.
