What does a baseball game and gait rehabilitation have in common?

More than you might think. Both require determination, teamwork, and the belief that every step counts—whether it’s toward home plate or toward recovery. At Mission Gait, we know that rehabilitation is not a solo journey. Like baseball, it’s a team effort—one that calls for practice, perseverance, and a community cheering you on.

That spirit came alive on Saturday, April 19, 2025 during our inaugural All Stars Night at the Diamond with the Richmond Flying Squirrels as we honored our nine incredible All Stars – Robin, Sue, Carol, Mike, Gavin, Jacob, Lauren, Joe and Robert. Each of these individuals has overcome significant gait challenges (you can read more about their individual stories on Nutzy’s Walk of Fame page here), and their presence reminded us all of the power of perseverance and the support of community.

Joined by their loving family, friends and supporters, the All Stars threw out the ceremonial first pitches before the game, receiving a warm ovation from the crowd. Earlier that afternoon, our youngest All Star and a dedicated baseball player himself, Gavin, was welcomed by the Squirrels team during batting practice. To add to that, right before the game, Gavin accompanied Manager Dennis Pelfrey to the plate meeting with the umpires and presenting the official lineup card for the night’s game.

And what a game it was! Fans were treated to an exciting matchup as the Flying Squirrels shut out the Chesapeake Baysox with a 1–0 victory.

As the final out was called, the celebration didn’t stop there. The All Stars returned to the field to help set off the post-game fireworks, lighting up the night sky in a fitting tribute to their courage and spirit.

All Stars Night is more than just a baseball game—it’s a celebration of how far our ambassadors have come and a reminder that rehabilitation is a team sport. We’re grateful to everyone who came out to cheer, connect, and be part of something bigger. Although the night is over, the spirit of resilience and the power of community continues to live on
