2025 All-Star Inductee

Jacob
For Jacob, football was more than just a sport—it was a passion. But in a split second, that passion brought a life-altering challenge. A devastating knee injury during a game led to torn ligaments, a dislocated knee, and a severed artery. Despite efforts to save his leg, Jacob ultimately made the difficult decision to undergo an above-knee amputation.
The reality of losing a limb from playing the game he loved was shocking. “The thought of this ever happening never crossed my mind,” Jacob shares. But from the start, he made a choice. He would not dwell on “Why me?” Instead, he saw this challenge as an opportunity to overcome adversity and prove that obstacles would not dictate the life he wanted to live.
Jacob’s goal was clear: he wanted to get back on the football field—not just to play again, but to make an impact. Doctors warned him his ambitions might be too lofty, but their doubts only fueled his determination. He faced two major challenges on his journey. The first was patience. Recovering from such a life-changing event required him to wait for his body to heal enough to take the next steps. The second was overcoming the doubts of others, including well-meaning professionals who urged him to pursue less demanding activities. “Regardless of what some accomplished doctor tells you, they do not know you. You are the only person capable of choosing your path and outcome,” Jacob says.
Surrounded by a strong support system, Jacob worked tirelessly to achieve his goals. His parents, Lee and Kathy, his siblings, teammates, and coaches all rallied around him. And with the guidance of David Lawrence and Joe Sullivan, he found innovative ways to push his limits. “David and Joe were constantly thinking of new things to try to help me achieve my goals,” he recalls.
Jacob’s hard work paid off in a moment he’ll never forget: stepping back onto the football field with his teammates and leading a touchdown drive. It wasn’t just about the score—it was about proving to himself and everyone else that anything is possible with determination and resilience. “That moment symbolized everything I had worked for,” he says. Along the way, small victories in training became stepping stones to larger accomplishments, reinforcing his belief that progress is built one step at a time.
Today, Jacob lives in Arlington, Virginia, working at an investment firm in Washington, D.C. While football shaped much of his story, his journey is now about more than just the game—it’s about inspiring others to pursue their own goals, no matter the odds.
When asked what advice he would give to others, Jacob offers words of wisdom drawn from his own experience. “It sounds cliché, but truly anything is possible. Along the way, there will be obstacles, but you cannot let those deter you. Focus on what you can control and let everything else take care of itself. You have the ability to find light in the darkness. Harness that light and use it to motivate you to achieve whatever you wish.”
Jacob’s story is a powerful reminder that adversity can be a catalyst for greatness. By refusing to let obstacles define him, Jacob found his way back to the field—and to a life filled with purpose and determination.
